When these separate trips are put into effect, I do have a tendency to expect something in return for my sacrifice. Sometimes I hope that I’ll receive something extravagant (it never is), other times nothing more than a tee shirt will suffice.
Other times, I will go ahead and acquire something shiny for myself as a consolation prize. Usually this results in immediate buyer’s remorse as with this trip. I made the purchase on advice from a Dell rep in the form of an upgraded graphics card. This turned out not to be a compatible PCIe card and I lost an evening of my life with Dell on the phone ascertaining it needed to be returned after assurances it would fit as I shopped online with a chat assistant.
Enough complaining. Do you think taking separate vacations leads to a healthy relationship? Have you ever tried it or heard of it?

I did 3 weeks in europe and left the wife at home. it was part business, but mostly adventure. Sometimes, you HAVE to have some journeys of your own. Your wife is your partner, your friend, your companion… but you are NOT tied together. The wife is going on an “all girls weekend” cruise later this year, which is great, I don’t like cruiseline boating!
That’s good to hear. I was starting to think it was really uncommon.
