About This Comic: Non-Conformist
When did this happen? Back in the day you could wave your freak flag high when you were an Apple fan. Now, the non-conformist seems to buy anything but mainstream. Think different. Fight the power.
And come on – Mini-iPad? Never mind that there is documentation that the late Steve Jobs hated the idea and the company is no longer following his vision posthumously. Mark my words, we are in for a whole bunch of Maxi-iPad jokes and comics.
It’s just a phone, right? Except it is not. A smartphone choice is a fashion/personal statement. I love, love, love the Samsung spots with the poseurs queuing up in line (again) like lemmings. The campaign for the Samsung Galaxy SIII ranks among the funniest and most clever I’ve seen in my long, cranky life.
I could bore you with a bunch of minutiae and excuses like “I need to check my mobile web work on the platform the other half of the world uses“, but the real reason is that I am just tired of the stagnant iOS after all these years and want a change. We picked up my wife’s iPhone 5 the other night which partly inspired the timing of this comic, and after a day with it she confessed it is all “much ado about nothing”.
This strip is dedicated to ElDirty. You were ahead of your time on this matter.
Regards,
T.

Heh!
You know, this is a tough thing to say seeing as I actually prefer Macs over PCs but I like that Samsung commercial too… mainly because I also think it’s pretty smart that they never once show a logo or anything else that could even be mistaken for something Apple – except for the white headphone wires – but you INSTINCTIVELY know WHO and WHAT they are referring to…
Now, I have a Android phone only because I have T-Mobile so an iPhone would be useless for me. And, for the most part, I really like my phone but I think I would like an iPhone better.
Of course, I don’t have a Galaxy III yet. My T-Mobile rep though said once I qualify for an upgrade, I would really LOVE the Galaxy III. So, I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
Oh Android folk are just the same as Apple folk anymore. If you really want to go against the grain, go with a Windows Mobile 8 phone. The Lumia 920 (Nokia) is pretty sweet, and it also had a great campaign (albeit mainly in Europe), and the HTC 8X is also nice, but without the great hardware.
Then there’s the really counter everything, the Nokia Pureview 808, which runs Symbian Bell. It’s got a 41 MP camera. (Forty-One, not Four point one) and other ridiculous hardware.
