I find Odori Park by Chris Watkins to be a diamond in the rough of my webcomics favorites. Truth is, I can’t remember how I initially stumbled upon it and it doesn’t really matter. I’m struck by two things: the consistently top-notch art and, for lack of a better description – the wholesome writing.
What I do recall is that when Chris put out a call for guest strips because he needed a nap at the first anniversary of his strip in April ’10, I got cold feet. I felt I couldn’t write for Odori Park because my cynical, acerbic view of the world was at odds with his point-of-view. Chris persuaded me over Twitter to give it a shot, because even fart jokes are fair game.
I like to take the high road and say I have never done a fart joke comic. At this writing, anyway.
