When I originally wrote the script for this one way back – yes, some planning goes into these – I scrapped it because the idea seemed too “Cathy”. Now, lo and behold it has become topical with the announcement that Cathy Guisewite is ending her strip next month after 34 years, so I can re-purpose it as a “tribute”!
I won’t pretend her work is a huge influence, but you have to applaud her success. The dream of supporting your family as a cartoonist is a lifelong one for many and only achieved by relatively few. I remember reading on Tom Richmond’s blog that he visited her home and naturally her studio is located there.
Citing the desire to spend more time with her family - when you work at home - is still kind of perplexing to me. I’ll respect her reasons nonetheless. Congrats on a great run Cathy.
And note to me, never kill the “kill-file”.
